I have always loved birds. I began photographing birds when
I moved to Singapore in 1998 and bought a camera with a second-hand
telephoto lens. I guess that was the top of a slippery slope!
For me, as for many others, birding is more of a passion than
a hobby! I am not a professional photographer, I just love photographing
and observing birds in their natural habitats!
Zoologists divide the world up into 6 zoogeographical realms
and I have chosen to organize my photos according to these. To
see my photos from a particular realm, simply click on the relevant
section of the map below (i don't have photographs from every
realm yet).

Realms are further subdivided into sub-realms and regions, and
some of my pages may reflect this. For the sake of simplicity,
the photos on each page are organized in alphabetical order of
their common names. The status of threatened and endangered species
(according to Birdlife International) is given in brackets after
the common name.
All the images on this page are copyright c. artuso. Most are
35mm slides (a few from my earliest days with a camera are prints).
Although "digipixing" (using a digital camera through a spotting
scope) is now becoming more and more popular for bird photography,
I still prefer old-fashioned slides - more difficult but you can
do more with them! Unfortunately, for the purposes of this page,
these images are all very low in resolution and many were cropped
to reduce their size - I prefer the originals where you can see
more of the surrounding habitat! Of course I also have many photographs
of other species not shown here (over 1200 species in fact!).
If you are interested in obtaining prints or larger resolution
images, or would like to comment on any of my photos, you can
email me at chartuso@hotmail.com
I hope you enjoy these images!
